MALAIKARAISS Spring/Summer '14

Cathleen Wolf for MALAIKARAISS
I've actually intended to write just about the shows/events I've been to this week, but when I saw these big earrings from Sabrina Dehoff for Malaika Raiss' Spring/Summer 2014 runway show, I had to watch it on youtube. Anyways I'll show you my favorite outfits from her collection here.

Berlin Fashion Week S/S '14: Opening Show of Hien Le

Today was the first day of the Berlin Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 and through work I had the chance to be there for the opening show of Hien Le. So, I was really excited to sit close to the runway to take some nice shots! It was the second time that he received the honor to open the fashion week. I have to admit I have to be some kind of patriotic here, he is also Vietnamese and I encourage Asians a lot! Don't get me wrong, but I do love Asians doing fashion! I mean: Vera Wang, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Perret Schaad and Hien Le, just to name a few :-P

Le is a Berlin based designer and his collections are dominated by his accurate workmanship and his minimalistic cuts. This season he found inspiration in nature by using a dragonfly-print for his signature pieces. Hien Le transformed the print and created an abstract appearance.

Where I am right now: BERLIN!

As you've noticed: YES I AM IN BIG BERLIN, the capital of Germany!

Doing what? Working as an intern at the well-known fashion blog: LesMads.

How come? Well, you apply for jobs and see what's out there right? Getting out of your comfort zone, hey! Studying close to home makes me want to travel a lot, so I've decided to spend at least my off-college time outside of my little hometown in south-west Germany.

What do I do there? Blogging all day I'd say, writing articles, doing research on the newest fashion trends and dealing with PR agencies, haha. No, it seems easy but it's not! I'm having a LOT of respect for full-time bloggers! So hats off! What I can say is: my passion for fashion is back and I enjoy this little job a lot! :) Want to have a look of what I'm writing? Check: Ok Cool-LesMads. It belongs to LesMads and is about anything new and trending, from small designers to new collaborations in the fashion industry. And yes, you can tell, it is a bit New York-influenced ;-)

My workplace.
No blogging without a camera!

How is it so far? Working with Katja is great! She is really professional and you can learn a lot. It's a very nice experience and I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming fashion week in Berlin and the next few months. Although it is exhausting sitting in the office all day and writing, I really do like it. Shooting outfits, street styles, doing research and being able to create posts is a lot of fun!

Just a little update of what I'm spending my summer with ;-) So, most of the time I'm in the office dealing with fashion :) Oh and when I'm off, I'm trying to experience Berlin to the fullest: food, markets, longboarding and  staying healthily happy :-)

Stay tuned! xx

Cat eyes x Indian tailor

I met up with one of my friends from high school and we went to the Nowkoelln Flowmarkt. It was really really nice seeing her especially when you just get to see each other once or twice a year. So this is Samira and I've always liked her style. She wears a lot of black but still owns several special pieces in her wardrobe. Like she'd say: I cannot imagine living without black clothes! =D I also love how she mixes up her outfits with vintage and second hand.

Samira told me that the blazer is from India and is actually made for men. Men are smaller and thinner there, so she got a male one which fits perfectly to her statue. I really like the mixture of chic-cool by pairing the blazer with sneakers and the bike ;-) It looks independent and sporty. Looking at this composition, I've noticed that I've never worn a blazer before when taking my bike out, maybe I should try out.

Once again: Yes, you can go all black without looking like going to a funeral. Black can be fun, yet elegant and cool at the same time. Pair it with nice shoes, accessories and more ;-)
Go for a golden necklace and a vintage bike!

Samira #1: Weekday sweater, Indian tailor-made blazer, COS black leggings, Nike Air Vortex sneakers, Cheap Monday sunglasses, Casio watch, golden necklace from grandma's and second hand backpack.

edit: See what's inspiring Samira on her tumblr: sur Madame Lugosi.

My once-in-a-year-haircut

Yes! Today I've got my once-in-a-year-haircut because I'm always afraid of cutting my long hair. I have to admit that my last time was in the U.S.: August 27th '12! I'd just let them grow and grow. They belong to me and I definitely cannot imagine myself with like.. short hair. My friends from college kept telling me that I should go let my hair cut because they were just toooo long. And I'd always answer: Naahh, I love my hair, I don't want to!!!

Vogue Netherlands May '13: A longboard story

Model: Anne-Marie van Dijk in Vogue Netherlands May 2013, Photographer: Anne Menke

How would you incorporate a longboard into a high-fashion editorial?
Just shoot a model who rides a longboard, put some designer clothes on her and let it print in the Vogue Netherlands May 2013! Sounds fun, huh? I'm sure it definitely was! Look at the pictures, I can imagine these guys had tons of it shooting this. In my opinion the photgrapher did a great job and the female model just looks super cool with the board. The outfits with the prints and colours make it more exciting. These looks don't look too boyish, still fashionable and I suppose it is possible to ride a longboard in these clothes. I love this editorial by mixing up one of my favorite hobbies with another passion of mine: Fashion x Longboarding.

My favorite pictures are: the one above, orange colours go well with the blonde hair and her pants are great! The third one below with the black oversize sweater and the green/blue pants- doesn't it look super independent, cool, stylish and like: 'You know what? I don't care what you think!' Love it! And the one with the olive green jacket is nice, as well. Oh my, I really need sweaters like these to longboard, especially when it gets cooler at night.

Black x White

zara lookbook 2013

Yes, it is summer and although I'm more into colours when the weather is getting hotter I just love black and white. It is not a new trend, but black and white always work. It's like: What to wear today? Go all black or all white, nothing wrong with it, just mix it up with statement pieces and a nice handbag or shoes. Well done then!

New Boho Chic: Free People + Anthropologie

Free People Presents "Roshambo" from FreePeople on Vimeo.

Beautiful people: 'Girls' actor Christopher Abbott and model Sheila Marquez are featured in this first short film of Free People. A love story takes place in beloved Brooklyn, New York and shows clothes from the brand. Free People and Anthropologie belong to Urban Outifitters, Inc. I recognized these brands when I was in the City and now that it's summer I'm longing for them again. Although I don't like UO as much, I adore Anthropologie, it has something more chic, more mature and feminine.

Golden summer 2013 at Roxy

Have you seen the new summer swim 2013 collection from the girls sports brand Roxy? I just fell in love with their signature bandeau for the campaign. It's white, strapless and has golden crochet details on the bra. Just beautiful and perfect for anyone who loves the combination of metallic and white. YES! I love it, I want it and just cannot take my eyes off of it!

Roxy belongs to Quicksilver Inc., the largest sports brand for everything dealing with boards. The brand Roxy targets young women and encourages them in sports, especially surf and snow. They also sell equipment, footwear, accessories and more. I think they try to do a mixture between sporty and girly, which works very well for me now ;-) ! Fashion and sports goes hand in hand here.

First capture in Berlin

M #1:  Gap Vintage top, Pieces jeggings, Zara sandals, Coach Vintage purse, C&A sandals, Snash Jewelry NY outline bracelet and rings.

Who loves everything vintage? I do! You can find real bargains in New York City, also known brands like Coach, Jacobs etc. I just love mixing and matching it with new clothes and accessories from small designers like my bracelets from Snash Jewelry which you can find here

Better yet, you can find her designs at Brooklyn Fleas and Markets. Some of them have the NY skyline cut out, others are more rough and have claws. You have to look what fits you best, I'd stick to neutral ones because they'd fit to anything.

Jewelry spree *.*

This saturday my german friend Matze and I, we went to the MET and it is  is so huge, we're always getting lost, it's really hard not to! =D
We saw the Schiaparelli and Prada Exhibition, Cloud City by Tomás Saraceno and also the Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia and Later South Asia.
I have to go to the Schiaparelli and Prada again because their art/design work is amazing! A must for every fashion- lover! Cloud City, an installation on the Roof is very interesting, I feel like it doesn't really fit there but still it's cool! :) Check it out, it's on until November '12. The last exhibition is a permanent one, it has great carpets and calligraphic designs. I love that they often used the colour gold and the jewelry below is from India. After that I just wanted to travel to Asia again! Let's visit Istanbul and India, please! :)
Later that day, we went to lovely Brooklyn.
At Smorgasburg (every Saturday) we had delicious lunch. It was so hot that day and the problem with this kind of food market is that there are too many choices!!! And if you're hungry, you don't want to stay in line for hours, but also you want good food =D This is the U.S.!!! There are just too many options and there is a lot of competition! And I am just indecisive with these things because I always want to compare and see what I'd get for my money! =D
So, I've been there before with my friend Frances from England, that day we've had Cemita's Mexican Sandwich. It's filling, so I'd recommend sharing one with a friend.
Yesterday I've had a Colombian Dish: a flaxseed Arepa with chicken, Colombian cheese, arugula, salsa and cilantro sauce. Loved it! I'd like to try making that on my own.

The Renegade Crafts Fair was at the East River State Park, Williamsburg, right next to Smorgasburg and there were so many vendors! Again: too many choices! =D I ended up buying jewelry from Sna$h Jewelry because I've seen her stuff at one of the many flea markets before and I fell in love with the golden designs! Designed in New York- by a New Yorker :) I got an open-faced bracelet and four square rings. One guy at Snash Jewelry called me 'golden girl' =D It took me hours to make a decision! I'd buy them all!!!

On our way back to the subway station we crossed Williamsburg Walks on Bedford Ave. They've closed down the streets and had artists coming and had fun activities:
Matthias and I got free charm necklaces from Brooklyn Charm, I picked out a short golden necklace with three green pearls. I usually wear long necklaces but I thought: Let's try a short one because I've seen it on many girls and I liked how it looks on them. Green pearls because I'm on a green trip guys! =D

That was a very nice saturday!
Great weather and I've had a lot of fun with Matthias!
And.. I was successful with my jewelry spree! :)))

Hope you're still enjoying my city- trips!

Xxo,

M

Nowmanifest

Gathering the world’s most renowned bloggers in fashion under the NOWMANIFEST name, we aim to inspire and guide readers around the world. Our bloggers are handpicked due to their strong sense of trends and great impact on their readers. NOWMANIFEST addresses the modern consumer with an eye for fashion and style, and the ones seeking to be fashion-forward.

Throughout history, fashion is known to reflect trends in modern society. NOWMANIFEST should therefore not only enlighten readers alike all over the world, but also act as a diving-board into the aspiring world of fashion today.
It all happens right here, right NOW.

As I understand it, nowmanifest is a fashion platform for the most well- known fashion blogger on the world wide web.
Actually I do like fashiontoast's, style by kling's and bryanboy's blogs.
You should check them out if you're into fashion, I check their blogs daily and I like reading what they post.

I started reading fashiontoast before her blog was on this platform and
Rumi Neely is just awesome! I like most of her outfits and the pictures are great!!! I like to follow her and BryanBoy as they travel a lot and also tell about where to go/ where to eat. It is definitely a plus that they are 'Asians', too :) It is just fun for me reading about what they see/do/experience and of course WEAR! =D

bryanboy.com

Elin Kling's style is kind of 'simple': a lot of denim, skinny jeans, blazers, still classy and 'chic'. That's what I like! Sometimes less is more! Of course also the fact that she is living and working in the city for now! I should try to catch her at some point =D
There is a lot of hype going on about her, good and bad things, she as a blogger, entrepreneur, model etc. I just think that people are jealous and she should do whatever she likes and just keep doing it if she's happy!
stylebykling.nowmanifest.com

I like this outfit because it is really laid- back/casual. I feel like she can pull anything off although she is so skinny!!!
That's like one of my biggest issue with my bodytype. I am also kind of skinny but always don't know if I should stick with tight and short, so you can find curves, haha =D Which curves?! And then again if I wear clothes which are too loose I feel boyish or it just doesn't look right...
Let's see if I will ever be able to answer that styling question :)

wedge sneakers/ sneaker wedges

Isabel Marant, net-a-porter.com
Ash, asos.com

Yay or nay? What do you think of those wedges or sneakers?
At the beginning I saw them in a few blogs and magazines and I found them kind of ridiculous.
There is always a new fashion trend and in my opinion you don't always have to follow them, just stick to the ones you like and the ones which fit your style the best.

However, now I see them on women's feet, in Brooklyn, in the city, just recently on the High Line! And you know what? They CAN look nice and elegant! You just have to know how to pull them off (skinny jeans, black turtleneck sweater, a little bit of jewelry). I think it's the same with women wearing big sneakers like Nikes.

Still, they are pretty pricey, they cost around 300$ and I know they wouldn't fit me well, big shoes like those by Nike or Timberland are too chunky for my body type.
Maybe it is something for you?! :)

Tonight was the opening gala of the Costume Institute's exhibition 'Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations' at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. The exhibition is on from May 10 to August 19 and I am definitely going to see it in the next few weeks!
I will tell you how it was then!

http://metmuseum.org

The Metropolitan Museum of Art won’t have to stay open till midnight to accommodate crowds for “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations,” this year’s Costume Institute extravaganza, mainly because the show isn’t all that extravagant, certainly not on the order of the Alexander McQueen exhibition last year..
