Food Weekend II: Vegan at Panke Bistro Wedding

It was a sunny and warm Spring Day when my boyfriend took me to this hidden place close to the Panke river in Wedding in Berlin. He told me that the other day, he passed this cool alternative Café where you can have Vegan and Vegetarian Food and wanted to check it out. Well, walking and walking deeper into Wedding, I was really curious about this place and couldn't imagine that there was a neat Café since you pass by a lot of tunnels with graffiti and there were no similar shops in sight. But when we kept walking we found it and my first impression was like: Okay, this is it?!

Yes, indeed, we walked inside the building, in which it was at first super dark, looking like a club, and then, heading to the bar, there was only one person, serving us because we asked for food :D The waitress was really nice and told us about the changes of menu. So, there I was, at an alternative Vegan Café, really didn't know what to expect from a 'club-like' environment inside with a huge 'garden-like' space outside :D

I had an Orange-Carrot-Potatoe Soup and my boyfriend had a Sriracha-Hot-Cheesy Sandwich with arugula. And OMG! It was SUPER-DUPER delicious :D Okay, the orangey-soup wasn't my taste because too sour/sweet, but my boyfriend liked it, so we switched our foods :) He loved the soup and I loved his Sandwich :) :D :D Haha, so we ended up being super happy and I was extremely surprised and will definitely want to go there again!

To solve my little mystery why it is dark inside: in this building there are also concerts, parties, events and more going on :) You can eat, dance and enjoy your day and nights there, visit this cool place, have some lunch here, enjoy the sun and breathe in some fresh air next to the river :)

Food Weekend: Korean at Yam Yam Berlin

This week I want to present you two Restaurants from Berlin, so it's a Food Weekend :) I start off with another Korean Go-To ;-) The first one was at Madang's. So, my friend and I wanted to go somewhere new for dinner and were pretty unsure about the many restaurant choices. But the fact that she never had some delicious hot Korean Food before made it easier; after strolling through reviews and such, we ended up at Yam Yam in Mitte.

As a starter we ordered Steamed Vegetarian Dumplings filled with vegetables and tofu, which were okay for my taste, but my friend liked it a lot. So, it depends on your taste ;-)
They also serve Kimchi, spicy cabbage, with any dish. My friend (who does not really eat spicy food) couldn't deal with the Kimchi :D and after several tries, she gave up and said: No more Kimchi for me! :D For our entrées my friend had a Rice Bowl with Glass Noodles, Vegetables and Beef and I went for the Vegetarian Ramen Bowl in Spicy :)

Her dish wasn't too spicy, so she could easily eat it up and mine was superduper hot :D (Hey, I can really handle hot dishes and I love Sriracha Sauce, but this was.. puuh, very spicy!) Anyways, the Ramen was still very good and I did finish as well ;-) When you're in Berlin, come here and try out some delicious Korean Food because:

1st it is not too expensive (we are still students ;-))
2nd the menu is kept small, it's easier to decide then
3rd they know what spicy means :)

Oh, but keep in mind that this restaurant can be a bit crowded ;-)
I will definitely come back for more :-)
Happy Eating Out!

Rohvolution 2014: How was it?

As I've told you in last week's post, I was in Berlin over the weekend to attend the biggest Raw and Vegan Food Event Rohvolution in Europe. How was it then? I was there on Sunday because I hoped that it'd be less crowded, and yes it actually was :)

Exhibitors and visitors were pretty relaxed and calm, so it was a really nice atmosphere. My boyfriend and I arrived around noon, just perfect to take part in the lecture of Arnold Wiegand, a Raw and Vegan athlete who regularly participates in triathlons and Iron marathons. We were interested in his lifestyle and how he actually manages his training routines with being a vegan, having a raw and plant-based diet and whether he uses supplements. This took about 45min. and it was really good, he explained to us how he trains and what kind of food he eats, but also what myths are not true and what beginners (vegan + extreme sports) should be aware of.

Several products were presented, like the Vegafino, picture above, with which you can make your own nut milk or different blenders for smoothies and juices. The highlight of this event were definitely the variety of yumminess for about 2 to 8 Euros, from cookies and desserts to salads, falafel, wraps and more. We both tried out the Chili Sin Carne from Arohma and the Falafel from Bistroh Rohköstlich, but also bits'n pieces of raw, dried cookies, chocolate and green juices.

The two wonderful ladies above are Nelly Reinle-Carayon and Birgit Roth, the inventors of Wild Pasta, the very first raw pasta, which does not need to be cooked, yes at all! The Raw Pasta mostly consist of Quinoa, different herbs, spices and sea salt. It's also gluten-free and is available in three tastes: Sea Salt (the Original), Tomatoe and Provencal herbs. No cooking needed, how? Just soak in your pasta with any sauce or pesto for about 15-20 minutes and you will have your raw, healthy and delicious meal :) Isn't that amazing? I will definitely get myself a package at the store Rohköstlich and will try this out, will keep you updated ;)

That day it was also nice and warm out, so that we spend some time outside of the two fair halls and enjoyed some sun on our faces :) That green juice was of spinach, pineapple, apple, oranges and super yummy and refreshing! How did my boyfriend actually like it? Well, he said it was a lot of fun, very interesting and there was a lot to learn about food and health. The only thing he did not think of at first was: everything is cold! Raw food, duh.. :D

We also ended up shopping some stuff for our sweet tooth, have you ever tried Govinda Paradiso-Konfekt? It's only coconut, coconut butter and agave syrup, super delicious :) I hope you guys were able to come to this event, too. If not, go to the other ones this year and let the Raw & Vegan products and foods inspire you :) It is definitely worth it and I can highly recommend it, especially when you can shop cheaper than in the store ;-)

Happy eating, shopping and happy experimenting ♥

Food Friday: Korean at Madang's Berlin

Today's Food Friday Restaurant Review is more of a recap since I was there back in the summer 2013. That night, we actually wanted to go to Little Tibet, but unfortunately we were standing in front of closed doors. However, we decided to walk up the street and find out what's around. It was pretty late and crowded when we stopped at Madang's, but the chef was so kind to still serve us.

So, we ordered the grill for two with beef and mixed vegetables. It reminded me a lot of NYC and the lovely dinner I had with my Asian friend Kendy in 2011 :) oh and the Kimchi! Just love it :) funny stories come into my mind when I think about it: some Koreans were on our California trip and brought tons of Kimchi in plastic bags to the U.S. because they thought they'd run out =D

Anyways, I really like Korean Food and in my opinion it's pretty healthy, too! Lots of protein and veggies ;-) The waiters in there are super nice and Madang is highly recommended because of their calm atmosphere. The prices are fair and the food is really authentic and delicious. Always worth a stop whenever you're looking for some authentic Asian food in Berlin, I will definitely go there again ;-)

Food Friday: Yellow Sunshine Berlin

Although I'm really not into burgers THAT much, my dear friend told me that I really have to try out the vegetarian and vegan fast food restaurant Yellow Sunshine in Berlin. It's also the very first Organic one in Germany. So, there I was, standing in a fast food restaurant, not really knowing what to do in there but after the first sight into their menu I became curious.

I went for the Spinach x Cheese Burger and my friend had the vegan 'Double-sChicken' Burger and I have to say: How good was that? =D Yes, I have to admit, these burgers were really delicious and I will go back if I'm lusting for some ;-) The fact that they have vegetarian, vegan AND organic food to offer is tempting. And I think that once in a while comfy food like burgers are fine ;-) So, dig into a supergood burger without guilt!

Food Friday: Bejte Ethiopia Berlin

How do I get to all these restaurants? Well, friends recommend me a bunch of things whenever I'm in Berlin and then I really want to try out by myself, especially when it comes to unusual food. This weekend we went for some Ethiopian food and tried out Bejte Ethipioa-a café and restaurant in Schöneberg.

The interior is very traditional like, colourful and it took us time to get used to. Still, it was warm and cozy in there and the waiters were really friendly, trying to suggest us dishes and showed us how to actually EAT their food =D For the ones who never had Ethiopian food before, you'll eat with your fingers and hands, no utensils, only flat bread and napkins :)

Our curiosity was satisfied by the taste of these different sauces on this huge flat bread. So, we've ordered a combination out of two (meat x vegetarian) and my other friend ordered a single plate with vegetarian sauces and the small salad. Yeah, I know it doesn't really look appealing, but taste matters more, right? ;-)

How was it? Well, very very interesting, different tastes, different sauces, from sweet to hot it was like a small adventure :) My other friends liked it, too but I wouldn't go there again. I mean, I would go there and recommend anyone to really try out since this is a REAL food experience but not if you're expecting a taste explosion of excellence =P

For 22€ serving two you will get this huge plate full of colourful sauces and several more flat breads which will fill you up in seconds :) Prices are very good, I can say and the Ethiopian beer was nice, too. Go, check out and see yourself :)

Food Friday: Little Tibet Berlin

Today, I'm presenting you a short restaurant review of Berlin's Little Tibet. How come? Well, I thought that once in a while I would like to show you my favorite eat-outs and give you new ideas where to go. So, whenever there's no recipe on fridays, there will be an 'Eat-Out'-Review :) Additonally I've thought that adding it all up, I'd have 52 recipes a year if I post every friday, a bit too much right? Yes! Sooner or later I'd start having a separate blog for just my recipes =D Haha, who knows..

When entering the restaurant you'll realize that it's really calm and relaxing, making you feel immediately content. Unfortunately I couldn't take pictures of the interior, but there are photographs of Tibet all over the rooms and traditional Asian furniture in the colours red and brown. It's really cozy in there and the waitresses were super friendly, wearing an unusal long gown for work.

As drinks we've had a Mango Lassi (mangojuice x yogurt drink) and a Butter Tea (tea x milk x salty butter), which was really interesting but not my taste. My friend liked it a lot. Try it! As starters we've had the plate of Momo Nazom, mixed steamed and fried dumplings filled with spinach x cheese, chicken x onion and beef x onion on a salad. These dumplings were really delicious, reminded me of the ones from Joe's Shanghai place in NYC, and really filling, so sharing recommended ;-)

As main courses we've had the Gadhen Dä-Thuk (a curry mixed with beef, vegetables and rice, a speciality from Gadhen monastery in Tibet) and Shaptak Shoko (Wok-fried beef and vegetables, served with a special potatoe recipe). The second one was served with additional sticky rice and both were really good. The meals are different to Chinese food and I really liked the curry sauce of the first one and the potatoes of the second one. Of course there are vegetarian meals, too and I can assure you I'll be there more often to try out more! ;-)

So, whenever you're in Berlin, it's located on the Gneisenaustraße, go there and taste yourself, definitely worth it! The atmosphere, the kind waitresses and this rich Tibetan food, very appealing to me!

Vöner: Vegan Döner

It's hard being in Berlin and NOT eating a döner, but it's like everywhere. You can get one at any place for around three bucks. As you've noticed in my former posts, I do like vegan food and my boss recommended me this vegan place where you can get a Vegan Döner, it's called: Vöner

It looks like a regular döner with the flatbread but it's actually more crusty. Instead of the meat they're using Seitan made out of grains and legumes. They've also had three sauces: chili, tahini-garlic and a herbal sauce. At first I went with the first two, but I was missing something, like salt or so. After adding the chili sauce it was way better, more spicy.

The taste was really different, but in my opinion it couldn't replace the signature taste of a real döner. Still, it's a good alternative for vegans and I'd go there again :) If you're curious, you should definitely try it out and go for it!

Enjoy eating in Berlin!

Vegan Burger x Sunday Shopping

What are you guys doing on sundays? For me, I just love sundays fleas and markets. Right now, I'm having friends over from my little hometown and we've made it to the handmade supermarket. I was very much looking forward to the vegan burger and the fairtrade products. The vegan burger from Sunday Burgers with tofu, red beets, sprouts and three different sauces was just delicious. I'm telling you, go there, get it, have it, you'll be instantly happy. The sauces were chili-chipotle, peanut-coconut and mango-chutney, everything self-made! Besides I had the berry juice, full of antioxidiants and super healthy, love the pink colour!

Strolling through markets I'm always tempted to get myself some handmade jewelry. I had to get the bracelet from Maugold Berlin because it's something different and I'm drawn to anything gold and green. I think this is a statement bracelet. Whenever I see things like that, I'm always like: I should start doing more DIY-stuff, but I just don't take my time for it. Are you up for DIY?

Happy Sunday! xx

Vietnamese weekend in B.

Fam. DangTorstraße 125, 10119 Berlin

Since my friend Tina from Munich is here and we were longing for some Vietnamese food, we wanted to try out some restaurants in Berlin. I have to say, there are so many Vietnamese places here, you won't know where to go. She told me that we should check out Fam.Dang because one of her friends recommended it. Friday night we went for Lime Juice, a Goi Mien-Salad with glass noodles, Ga Xau Rau-chicken breast with mixed vegetables and Vietnamese herbs and the same thing with beef: Bo Xau Rau. Everything was really good and super delicious, the waiters were friendly as well. Whenever you're in Berlin and you want some authentic Vietnamese food, check this out!

Green Tea at Mamecha's

What do you guys do on a saturday when it's rainy outside? Right, you meet friends for coffee and have some cake. Although I always meet friends for 'coffee', I'd always get tea. This morning we've decided to go to a tea place instead of a coffee place. Google helped us and we've found MAMECHA!
