Mindful Monday: Stress as my Friend?

As everyone of us, I am still dealing with stress and I guess, this will not pass away that easy and fast, but I am definitely feeling better now because I listen more and more to my body's needs. Today, I've just found this super interesting Ted Talk in how to turn stress to your best friend as the Health Psychologist explains. Please take 15 minutes of your time to learn about how to deal with stress. It might save your life and the only thing you have to do is: believe.

Chasing meaning is better for your health than trying to avoid discomfort.

Mindful Monday: Speed - In Search of Lost Time

Last week I came through this movie by Florian Opitz about our precious time and how life is becoming faster and faster. Why I've watched it?

Often, I find myself stressing out and rushing throughout everyday life. Just recently, when I had to catch the train back home from Berlin, I was super nervous and rushing my boyfriend to move, I really stressed him out and at the end, we had another 20 minutes of waiting for the train. Yeah, poor me, I'm always like this. How to get rid of? Well, I usually meditate and do a lot of yoga to calm me down and on my smartphone-screen it says: Slow down. Breathe.

But I forget, you know, I honestly forget to breathe. My heart is racing, I am short-tempered, I feel inner stress and the only thing, I want to do is: be on time and get things done. On time for what? I pack my day full of to-dos and it's just hard to keep the right balance of resting and working. So, I really recommend you to watch this movie. For all Germans: click here, it is for free until Wednesday, spare 97 minutes of your life and let it inspire you and make you think about what is really important! For all English-speaking readers: the above movie is only a trailer.

This movie reminded me of a few important things again:

Take care of yourself.
When I'm sick, it's actually because of my stress,
I overwork myself and than I'm stressed again because I am unproductive.
Now, I'm telling myself: hey!
It's good to do NOTHING sometimes
and to take time to heal myself.

Focus on the most important task of the day.
Have it your No.1 priority and do it.

Have digital breaks.
No smartphone, no internet, no distraction.
No facebook, no instagram, no twitter,
no checking mails.

Slow down and really breathe.
Your to-dos can wait,
your body and mind cannot.

My mantra for this week:
dear stress,
let's break up ♥

Movie Review: Let it ride with Craig Kelly

The German all Girls Boarding Magazine Golden Ride had a raffle these days for the Heroes by Nature series by Red Bull, in which they show extreme sports movies (once a month in more than 40 cinemas throughout Europe). This month it was all about Snowboarding and yes, I was lucky enough to win some tickets :)

Never heard of Craig Kelly and the movie 'Let it ride' before, I was really curious about it. It's a 90min. movie, in which they display the history of snowboarding and how the ProSnowboarder has shaped this sport. The producer Jacques Russo combined film materials with interviews from Kelly and his friends and family, so this movie is really personal and makes you think about this sport with its risks and competitions. It was released in 2006 and since then has influenced many snowboarders and leaders to come.

In this movie you'll also get an insight of how the industry has changed: the rivalry between Burton Snowboards and Sims Snowboards, from Slalom riding to Halfpipes (Contests) and back to Freeriding in the Backcountry. Furthermore you'll see what snowboarding is actually about.

The pure fun of powder and the journey to freedom.

The 2nd movie that night was 'Peace Park' by Burton with the present Team Riders. After Peace Pipe in 2012, they created a Peace Park in Lake Tahoe between Nevada and California and wanted the riders to be creative. It was just fun watching them and omg, there was a 13-year old in between!!! Check out the trailers and get inspired!
Cannot wait until my very first snow-experience :)

Mindful Monday: Earthlings

This ongoing topic which concerns everyone of us is still on my mind. Yes! It concerns YOU, ME and anyone of your friends and family. A friend of mine recommended me this documentary called Earthlings which shows in full length how dependent we actually ARE on animals. Be it pets, food, clothing, entertainment or scientific research, this movie really goes deep and let us rethink our consumption and being on earth.

With hidden cameras the producers go into large factories, they illustrate how people 'treat' animals for mass production, entertainment and scientific purposes. While the movie was on, I sometimes had to look away since the pictures are really horrible! But honestly do not hesitate to watch it, in my opinion everyone who is on this planet should know what is actually going on behind closed and unknown doors.

There are many food and meat documentaries, but this one is highly worth-watching! It lays out different aspects and sums it all up in one and a half hours. After that I rethink if I really need meat for dinner tonight, as well as leather products and fur materials on clothing. Think about it and make the connection!

Style Hunt brought to you by Pharrell Williams

I have the feeling that this blog is turning into a food blog since I've been posting a lot about food, recipes and restaurant reviews. Well, how come? I'm eating out and cook every other day, that might be the case! So, since this should be an actual sports-and fashionblog, I'll try to focus more on those topics, but will of course still share my eats and mind thoughts ;-)

Following Pharrell Williams on Facebook his video show 'The Style Hunt' popped up and then, I watched this video about the street style of Berlin. Watching it again, it's so funny how the host is asking the people about their styles and how they feel. And indeed, Berlin is super-duper black! How did this stylist and individualist (6:11min.) said? Black represents clinically depressed, haha =D =D 'All black everything.' I'm sharing this thought a lot, back in the U.S. I'd do all colours, bought pinkish stuff and then coming back to Germany and being in Berlin, I was just drawn to black everything please! :) What am I going to do with those pink dresses and shirts now?

Style Hunt can be found on the youtube channel 'i am OTHER' which is dedicated to all Thinkers, Visionaries, Innovators and Individuals, just others. Check out the videos of Style Hunt and let me know, if you like it.

Image and what's actually behind

You should definitely watch this video: Cameron Russell talks about her life as a model and answers questions most people want to know. She gives a really honest insight of how it is to be a model and that models are probably the most insecure women on earth.

Image is powerful, yet superficial.
Whenever you get to know people, try to get to the core of them and don't judge them by their outer appearance.

GET OUT THERE!

Get Out There ! from GET OUT THERE on Vimeo.

"When asked what freedom is to us, we'll probably say nothing. No thoughts, no doubts, no fears, no pressure, no self reflection. A positive emptiness."

Freedom, that is what longboarding gives me. Be passionate about anything you do

and get out there!

New Boho Chic: Free People + Anthropologie

Free People Presents "Roshambo" from FreePeople on Vimeo.

Beautiful people: 'Girls' actor Christopher Abbott and model Sheila Marquez are featured in this first short film of Free People. A love story takes place in beloved Brooklyn, New York and shows clothes from the brand. Free People and Anthropologie belong to Urban Outifitters, Inc. I recognized these brands when I was in the City and now that it's summer I'm longing for them again. Although I don't like UO as much, I adore Anthropologie, it has something more chic, more mature and feminine.

Bag it!

The other day I was watching this documentary about plastic. It is really good and well done! Not too boring or too formal but it provides you with worth known facts about how much the Americans consume plastic, how much it causes harm to mother nature and where it actually ends, no not in your recycle bin!

An average guy, like you and me, is talking about something which we use every single day. It surrounds us everywhere if we notice. It can make us and especially our children sick, it damages the oceans and actually it is not recyclable.

My life is definitely too plastic! Is yours, too?

Spread the word out, use less plastic, reuse bottles and refuse single- use plastic.

"Think about it, why would you make something that you're going to use for a few minutes out of a material that's basically going to last forever, and you're just going to throw it away. What's up with that?"

The couple in the city recommended me the movie: Food, Inc. by Robert Kenner
I watched it in the morning and it is more like a documentary about the food industry, especially farming in the US. If you have time, you should definitely watch it. We should know and be aware of what we eat and how it is produced.

I found this web page and here is some advice how to change your habits relating to nutrition

Very interesting as well:
