Food Friday: Bejte Ethiopia Berlin

How do I get to all these restaurants? Well, friends recommend me a bunch of things whenever I'm in Berlin and then I really want to try out by myself, especially when it comes to unusual food. This weekend we went for some Ethiopian food and tried out Bejte Ethipioa-a café and restaurant in Schöneberg.

The interior is very traditional like, colourful and it took us time to get used to. Still, it was warm and cozy in there and the waiters were really friendly, trying to suggest us dishes and showed us how to actually EAT their food =D For the ones who never had Ethiopian food before, you'll eat with your fingers and hands, no utensils, only flat bread and napkins :)

Our curiosity was satisfied by the taste of these different sauces on this huge flat bread. So, we've ordered a combination out of two (meat x vegetarian) and my other friend ordered a single plate with vegetarian sauces and the small salad. Yeah, I know it doesn't really look appealing, but taste matters more, right? ;-)

How was it? Well, very very interesting, different tastes, different sauces, from sweet to hot it was like a small adventure :) My other friends liked it, too but I wouldn't go there again. I mean, I would go there and recommend anyone to really try out since this is a REAL food experience but not if you're expecting a taste explosion of excellence =P

For 22€ serving two you will get this huge plate full of colourful sauces and several more flat breads which will fill you up in seconds :) Prices are very good, I can say and the Ethiopian beer was nice, too. Go, check out and see yourself :)

Stop being normal and start being awesome

Reasons why:

Nobody is normal. Stop trying to fit in some standard, that standard doesn't exist.

You are draining your power. You are NOT average, stop sucking your life out of your own spirit.

You are EXTRAORDINARY. Shine your greatness, it is so worth being brave to be yourself.

Thank God, you are not normal.

Lusting for Zara Winter Coats

I'm really into Zara these days, but want to resist the urge to shop new clothes since my closet is full of stuff. If I'm really good I'll make it until 2014 without shopping any more pieces =P but we'll see, no promises.

This cold and windy weather makes me want to get a new cozy and oversize coat. Really fell in love with the first one because of its more linear shape and the texture. The 2nd one is more feminine and has a lovely collar to keep your neck warm, which I really like, and the last one with the plaid pattern and fake-leather sleeves reminds me of the punk-trend this fall. If I'm lucky, I'll get myself one at their next Sale ;-)

Mindful Monday: Earthlings

This ongoing topic which concerns everyone of us is still on my mind. Yes! It concerns YOU, ME and anyone of your friends and family. A friend of mine recommended me this documentary called Earthlings which shows in full length how dependent we actually ARE on animals. Be it pets, food, clothing, entertainment or scientific research, this movie really goes deep and let us rethink our consumption and being on earth.

With hidden cameras the producers go into large factories, they illustrate how people 'treat' animals for mass production, entertainment and scientific purposes. While the movie was on, I sometimes had to look away since the pictures are really horrible! But honestly do not hesitate to watch it, in my opinion everyone who is on this planet should know what is actually going on behind closed and unknown doors.

There are many food and meat documentaries, but this one is highly worth-watching! It lays out different aspects and sums it all up in one and a half hours. After that I rethink if I really need meat for dinner tonight, as well as leather products and fur materials on clothing. Think about it and make the connection!

Food Friday: Zucchini x Feta-Quiche

Whenever I'm having a lot of people coming over, I want to make something delicious and easy to eat. Today, I was thinking about a delicious quiche and got inspired (once again) by the recipe platform Chefkoch.de. As you know, I always do these recipes differently, so see how it worked :) If you like, make the original one, I assume that's super delicious, too!

Ingredients:
For the dough:
150g Whole-grain flour, some parmesan, half a teaspoon herb salt, 50g butter (or rather less, substitute with soy milk), one egg, fresh herbs.

For the topping:
2 Zucchinis, 2 eggs, 200g feta cheese, 50g seeds (pumpkin, sunflower), some parmesan (if you like), 50g sour cream, some oil.

1. Mix up all the ingredients for the dough and let it sit for half an hour in your refridgerator. Meanwhile you can cut up the zucchini in small pieces and heat it up with some oil, salt and pepper on your pan. Let the zucchini cool down.

2. After that half an hour take out the dough and press it onto your baking dish, let it bake at 175°C (350°F) for about 20 minutes. While the dough is baking you can mix up the toppings: Cut up the cheese into small cubes, mix with the other ingredients and the zucchini.

3. Fill up your dough with the topping until everything is evenly spread. Put in the oven for another 30minutes until golden-brown.

Have it with some raw vegetables like a salad and enjoy with friends and family :) Since this was not 'my'-recipe, I'm giving a big thanks for all the chefkoch.de-lovers who still inspire me. This is just a 'healthier'-version ;-)
